Profile: Julie, Full-Stack Developer at Wikit

Technological innovation is, above all, a human journey. At Wikit, our teams work every day to design, test, and build tools that make AI more useful and accessible. Today, we’re spotlighting Julie, a full-stack developer, who shares her experience and vision of generative AI with us.

Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your career?

I studied graphic design (a BTS) and theninformation and communication (a master’s degree at the university).

After spending a year looking for work as a graphic designer without finding any opportunities, I decided to switch careers and pursue software development by enrolling at Epitech. It was an intensive four-month program during which I learned the basics of coding, but more importantly, how to teach myself the technologies that interest me.

After completing that training program, I did a six-month internship at Wikit, right when the company was just getting started, and was hired for a permanent position shortly thereafter.

How long have you been working at Wikit and what are your main day-to-day responsibilities?

I am a full-stack developer with a focus on front-end development, which means I design and develop our user interfaces. In particular, I designed the component library that we use across all our products to ensure visual consistency and a seamless user experience. I also make sure our interfaces are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.

As a senior developer, I also serve as a technical lead, sharing best coding practices with my colleagues and contributing to the overall quality of our development work.

I also serve as the CSE representative, a role that involves acting as a liaison between employees and management on economic and social issues within the company.

How would you describe your role in the Wikit solution?

Like all developers on the team, our mission is to technically implement the features conceived by the product team: to define them, develop them, test them, and ensure they work with as few bugs as possible.

We also provide support by monitoring the platform’s performance and quickly resolving the most critical issues for our users.

Which departments or teams (product, marketing, design, HR, etc.) do you work with most often? On what topics? 

I work primarily with the development team. On a daily basis, we review each other’s code and draw on our respective technical expertise to help the solution evolve in a coherent and efficient manner.

I also work closely with the product team, which briefs us on upcoming features. We communicate frequently with them to refine the functional specifications and validate the developments following testing sessions.

Finally, as part of my support role, I work closely with the CSM team to best address customer requests and ensure the best possible experience on the platform.

If you had one piece of advice for a student or young professional who wants to do what you do, what would it be? 

We often have a somewhat clichéd image of developers—that of a bearded geek sitting behind a screen… but in reality, the field is much more diverse than that 😉

And contrary to another common misconception, you don’t have to be a math whiz to code! A little logic, curiosity, and an interest in computer science are more than enough to get started.

In the world of software development, what matters most is being thorough,having a desire to learn—self-directed learning is essential—andbeing self-reliant, all while being open to advice from more experienced people 😀

What do you like best about Wikit?

The fact that I’ve grown alongside Wikit in my career. But also, the good rapport with my colleagues, the autonomy, and the trust that’s placed in us. 

And also the fact thatwe constantlychallenge ourselves —whether it’s regarding the product we sell or the work methods that help us improve and maintain an efficient work environment. 

How do you see generative AI and chatbots evolving over the next few years, and where does Wikit fit in?

I think we’re heading toward a diversification of uses, with AI systems that are likely to become more specialized, designed to perform specific tasks. But I also feel that we ’re gradually losing that sense of “magic” as these tools become part of everyone’s daily life.

I hope we can strike the right balance: not placing blind trust in AI, while using it judiciously, as the intelligent tool that it is above all else.

If you had to describe the atmosphere at Wikit in three words, which would you choose?

Friendly, cooperative, and pleasant. 

Can you reveal something about yourself that's not in your CV?

I didn’t get into sports until I was pretty old, but I love being outdoors in the mountains, whether I’m trail running or hiking. Otherwise, I spend a lot of time in the garden with my hands in the dirt 😀  

If you could have one superpower for a day, which would you choose and why?

Let everyone realize what a beautiful planet we live on, and the urgency of the climate crisis we face.
